Sturgis Groundbreaking celebration marks Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity 33rd Anniversary.
Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity invites the community to celebrate with us as we break ground on two new homes to be built in the Sturgis community.
Rapid City, SD – Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity will celebrate their 33rd Anniversary on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 with shovels and earthmoving equipment on hand. The Groundbreaking activities begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the corner of Nellie and Sherman Streets in Sturgis. The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking and provide their support for the new homeowners and Habitat staff as we build over the coming months.
Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity has served 217 local families with affordable homeownership solutions in the last 33 years. The groundbreaking celebration marks the start of two new affordable homes for local families in need of affordable homeownership opportunities.
As a partnership housing ministry, Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity relies on the involvement of members of the community to partner through volunteering and supporting the construction process financially. No experience is necessary to volunteer, and all materials and tools are provided on the jobsite. “Everyone is welcome to build, regardless of experience. Many volunteers learn new construction skills on our build sites and we are glad to see our projects contribute to a sense of community and neighborliness as we build,” said Scott Engmann, Executive Director.
Individuals and groups are welcome to join to help build this home! To learn about how you can get involved, please contact the Habitat office at (605) 348-9196 or visit our website at www.blackhillshabitat.org.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity found its earliest inspirations as a grassroots movement on an interracial community farm in southern Georgia. Since its founding in 1976, the Christian housing organization has grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
