Women Unite to Build Stronger, More Stable Communities
Rapid City, SD (May 22, 2023) – Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity’s (BHAHFH) annual Women Build celebration returned in 2023 with a two day build in Sturgis. About 16 women volunteers came together on May 19-20 to support Habitat’s mission of helping local families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable housing.
Women Build events provide opportunities for women to take a proactive step in serving their communities. Any woman who wants to learn how to build or repair a home is invited to join. No experience is necessary. Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, alongside other volunteers, and future Habitat homeowners. Side by side, women learn new skills or strengthen current skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Women helping women sends a positive and powerful message. Women Build has been a Habitat tradition for over 20 years, and this year’s was the first hosted in Sturgis.
Women Build took place at 740 Fleet St. in Sturgis, the future home of future Habitat Homeowner, Sabrina. This year we hope women across the community will consider donating to Habitat in tribute to the mothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors in their lives. Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity helps women throughout the Black Hills work towards homeownership, creating financial stability for their families.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
